Despite its basic design, the smartphone-compatible Forerunner 25 watch has several features that build on Garmin’s history of GPS running gear. Some highlights include the following:

    • Smart notifications: When a runner pairs the Forerunner 25 with an Android or Apple smartphone, the watch provides call and text alerts.
    • Live tracking: Another smartphone pairing feature, Live Tracking sends a runner’s position to friends, family and coaches to help them track a runner’s progress from anywhere across the globe.
    • Activity tracking: Even when a user is not running, the watch tracks walking steps to offer an overall snapshot of daily activity.
    • Heart rate monitoring compatibility: If a runner owns a separate heart rate monitor, the watch connects to it and tracks heart rate performance during a run. Some Forerunner 25 models are available with a heart rate monitor included for an additional cost.
    • Foot Pod+ compatibility: As with heart rate monitoring, a runner who owns a Food Pod+ device can sync that device to the Forerunner 25 for increased tracking capabilities.
    • Virtual pacer tool: Like with previous Garmin watches, the Forerunner 25 offers a training tool to help a runner maintain or better running times by setting a pace to maintain for the duration of a run. The watch then alerts the runner to deviations of more than five seconds so the runner can hold a consistent pace.

The Forerunner 25 also has standard features runners expect from Garmin products, such as easy-to-read screens, auto pausing, automatic lap tracking, customizable screens and details about personal record runs. Furthermore, runners who choose to wear their watches all the time can even keep tabs on their sleep patterns using the watch’s sleep monitoring tool.

Runners who purchase the Forerunner 25 also have access to training plans to help all levels of runners, as well as Garmin Connect. This online tracking tool allows runners to join communities of like-minded athletes, participate in motivational challenges, earn online badges and more.

The Garmin Forerunner 25 is a unisex watch that comes in four color combinations to suit a variety of runners’ personal styles. It is water resistant as well, so runners don’t have to worry about their sweat damaging their watch.

Unlike tracking running progress using only a smartphone, the Forerunner 25 offers hands-free display of current pace, duration, miles completed and, when paired with a smartphone, call and text notifications. So, runners who focus on their pace and distance often find a Garmin running watch provides superior information. Plus, using a separate watch helps conserve cell phone battery life.

The Garmin Forerunner 25 helps runners track basic information about performance.

Introduction

Forerunner 15 was announced back in May 2014, while Forerunner 25 was made public this August 2015. With a gap of more than one year, the newer device introduces plenty of improvements.

However, Forerunner 25 is built based on Forerunner 15, and therefore similarities in terms of functions are expected. Both are listed under budget-friendly category under Forerunner series, but there are serious differences including the addition of Bluetooth Smart, Smartphone Notification, and Live Tracking features in the Forerunner 25.

Garmin Forerunner 15

It has been more than a year since Forerunner 15 was first announced back in May 2014. Forerunner 15 is available in two sizes and five color options. The screen for the big size measures at 0.98-inch x 0.94-inch, and this is slightly shrunk in the smaller models.

Display resolution remains the same in both variants at 55 x 32 pixels. The watch is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion to keep it on for up to 5 weeks in watch mode or 8 hours in training mode.

As a running watch, Forerunner 15 covers all the basic functionalities to measure metrics such as distance, pace, and calories. It actually approximates heart rate when paired with a compatible sensor.

The bundle version includes a heart rate monitor (HRM1). Many popular running features from Garmin exist in this watch for examples Virtual Pacer and Personal Records.

The former allows you to set a particular running pace, so the watch can give alert if you stray too far ahead or behind. A handful of common records are recorded, and the watch will produce alerts to notify you anytime you break those personal records such as longest distance or fastest run.

Besides Auto Pause and Auto Lap, Forerunner 15 also gives compatibility with optional foot pod. When paired, the watch can measure pace and distance even when training indoor.

Activity Tracking functionalities are active too. There are step counter, move bar, sleep monitoring, and auto goal to automatically learn user’s activity level to configure new goal.

Garmin Forerunner 25

Compared to Forerunner 15, the display sizes in both small and big variants of Forerunner 25 are actually smaller but they have better resolution at 128 x 128 pixels.

All features found in the Forerunner 15 can be found in Forerunner 25 too, but the latter brings some good additions.

The first notable addition is Bluetooth Smart that allows you to upload your running statistics to Garmin Connect via smartphone. Bluetooth also functions as a bridge to forward notifications received on smartphones to the watch.

All notifications for texts, emails, or phone calls will be sent to Forerunner 25 so there is a little bit of smartwatch in it. Another addition is Live Tracking to stream your location on an online map so your friends and family can stay updated with your current location in real time.

Battery life in Forerunner 25 is also better that it can now stay on for up to 8 weeks in watch mode or 10 hours in training mode. Activity tracking with the same set of features is found in Forerunner 15 and Forerunner 25.
