Introduction

Forerunner is the popular series of sport watches from Garmin that consists of numerous devices, from entry-level ones for basic running metrics to the sophisticated models with multisport functionalities. Garmin Forerunner 10 and Forerunner 15 are both listed under entry-level category announced in August 2012 and May 2014 respectively.

They represent the budget-friendly models of Forerunners featuring the bare minimum of running metrics measurement with some additions in terms of activity tracking in the Forerunner 15. Each of them is available in a variety of colors and two sizes, big and small (presumably to differentiate between male and female wrists).

Garmin Forerunner 10

Garmin Forerunner 10 The big and small versions of Garmin Forerunner 10 have minor differences in terms of screen size and overall dimensions; they even have the same display resolutions at 55 x 32 pixels. It uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery to provide 5 hours of power in GPS mode or 5 weeks in watch mode.

Forerunner 10 is a basic running watch featuring the abilities to measure time, distance, pace, speed, and calories. It records your running metrics based on GPS positioning, and it is able to store up to seven runs in its history.

The watch also provides notification anytime you break personal records such as longest run or fastest mile. Additional features include Auto Lap, Auto Pause, and Virtual Pacer.

Auto Lap feature kicks in anytime you hit a threshold of one lap. By default, the watch sets one lap as one mile and it produces audible/visual alert when you hit the threshold.

Auto Pause lets the watch stop measuring the metric when you drop below running speed, for example slow walking when approaching an intersection or even a full stop. It can be useful during city running or in an area where you need to slow down quite often. Manual pause/resume is also available.

The best addition is Virtual Pacer which tells you whether you are behind or ahead of any pre-configured pace set before the run. You can specify a goal pace and Forerunner 10 alerts you when you are running too fast or too slow.

Garmin Forerunner 15

All running features and battery type are the same in Forerunner 10 and Forerunner 15. You can upload your recorded metric to Garmin Connect online community from both watches for more detailed analysis.

In terms of battery life, the latter has better power management that a single charge of the battery can keep the device running for 8 hours in training mode or 5 weeks in watch mode.

Garmin Forerunner 15 is also available in different colors and two sizes (Garmin Forerunner 15 small or Garmin Forerunner 15 large), but every model has the same display resolution at 55 x 32 pixels. Both watches have the same 5 ATM waterproofing bodies, meaning you can use the watches while surface swimming or even swallow snorkeling as they withstand pressures down to 50 meters deep.

The biggest difference is that Forerunner 15 can act as daily activity tracker. Besides measuring running metrics including distance, calories, time, speed, and pace, this watch provides activity tracking functionalities such as step counter, sleep monitoring, move bar, and auto goal.

Moreover, it is compatible with optional sensors for examples ANT+ Heart Rate Strap and foot pod so you will be able to train in a gym or any indoor facility without missing important data.
