zumo 590LM has some common Garmin features including Active Lane Guidance, Bluetooth connectivity, and Garmin Real Directions. The device brings rugged design, which is good assuming it will be mounted on a bike and continuously exposed to natural elements.

There are also motorcycle-specific features such as tire pressure measurement, tire mileage, and digital fuel gauge. zumo 590LM also comes with free map updates. A brief overview of zumo590LM’s main features is as follows.

The zumo 590LM has a 5-inch transflective screen with 480 x 800 pixels resolution. The overall dimension measures at 5.12-inch W x 3.7-inch H x 1.18-inch D; it weighs 13.2 ounces.

More importantly, the screen is readable even under bright sunlight and glove-friendly, meaning you can still easily use it when you are wearing gloves. It is resistant to fuel sprays and comes with a rugged designed.  It is worth mentioning that the zumo has dual-orientation screen.

Navigation Features

It has a search function called “Search Field” to help motorcyclist to find numerous POIs as well as addresses. You can even find Garmin Real Direction, a navigation feature that uses common landmarks such as street lights and stop signs rather than street names for the guidance.

The zumo 590LM even comes with Active Lane Guidance which uses a combination of visual animation and voice-prompted navigation to guide users as they drive through an interchange or exit. When this feature is active, the screen will display an animation representing your current position and the proper lane to take.

In general, the navigation features equipped in zumo 590LM are also similar to those found on popular Garmin’s car GPS. This motorcycle GPS device also has Bird’s Eye Junction and photoReal Junction View. It can also display information about any available service near your current location such as fuel stations and stores.

Motorcycle-specific Features

zumo 590LM  has a number of motorcycle-specific features to measure bike data such as tire pressure, tire mileage, chain cleanings, and more. There is Service History Log that records overall mileage and maintenance-related information. You can also find a digital fuel gauge in the device.

Additional Information

In additions to those navigational features, zumo 590LM can play MP3 files and is compatible with Pandora, iPhone, and iPod, allowing you to control music playback directly from the GPS device. This feature is quite handy especially when you are riding a motorcycle without any integrated audio player.

Its Bluetooth connectivity allows user to make and receive calls while riding a motorcycle without even taking the helmet off. This device can even transmit voice-navigation to Bluetooth-enabled headset or helmet.
