Adaptive Touchscreen Provides Guidance Everywhere

The display on the Garmin eTrex Touch 35t is designed specifically so that users can read its screen even in bright sunlight, which is helpful for hiking, ATV riding other outdoor activities. The display size in the compact device is 1.43 inches x 2.15 inches, and the display itself is 65K color TFT for optimum viewing.

Unlike smartphones or other, more fragile GPS enabled devices, the Garmin eTrex Touch 35t is built to be rugged. It withstands elements such as water, dust, humidity and dirt. In fact, it has an IPX7 water rating, which means it can stand up to exposure to water up to one meter deep for as long as 30 minutes.

So, users can use the eTrex Touch 35t in precipitation such as rain or snow, as well as during exposure to splashes of water or incidental immersion for less than half an hour.

Maps and Connectivity Keep Users Moving and in Touch

The eTrex Touch 35t comes preloaded TOPO US 100K maps, with 8 GBs of room in its internal memory for more maps, as well as 250,000 preloaded geocaches courtesy of geocaching.com.

These geocaches offer users an efficient, paperless way to keep track of important trip information such as changes in terrain, trek difficulty, hints, trail descriptions and more. So, users no longer need to rely on paper printouts to find their way.

These maps combine with wireless connectivity to provide access to ANT+, smart notifications and VIRB links. So, the eTrex Touch 35t connects with compatible devices from Garmin to share trip information wirelessly, and it works with Bluetooth enabled smartphones to make sure users receive texts, emails and other notifications while they are away. (Users can, of course, disable this connection.) Users who also have a VIRB action camera can use the eTrex Touch 35t as a remote control for taking photos as well.

The device also is compatible with TOPO 24K maps, BlueChart g2 preloaded cards – available thanks to the eTrex Touch 35t’s microSD card slot – for water navigation and City Navigator NT maps for turn by turn directions on the road. For an added subscription cost, users can make use of BirdsEye Satellite Imagery as well to download satellite images and integrate them with maps on the device.

Plus, the eTrex Touch 35t works off both GPS and GLONASS satellites to pinpoint a user’s position quickly and accurately. Thanks to the eTrex Touch 35t’s ability to access both types of satellites at the same time, users can take advantage of extra 24 satellites than if it used GPS alone. These extra satellites allow users access to wider travels without losing satellite connection and functionality.

Electronic Compass Works No Matter How You Hold the Device

The Garmin eTrex Touch 35t’s built in, three-axis electric compass includes technology that negates the effect of a user tilting the device. So, the user does not have to hold the eTrex Touch 35t level to find out her heading, even when standing in place.

The eTrex Touch 35t has a barometric altimeter as well. This allows the eTrex Touch 35t to follow changes in barometric pressure, which it then uses to identify the user’s exact altitude. The user can use this data to watch for changes in barometric pressure over a length of time, which gives the user a heads up regarding changing weather.

Take the Garmin eTrex Touch 35t Anywhere

Garmin and other manufacturers offer a wide variety of mounts to take the eTrex Touch 35t from a handheld device to a mounted one. The eTrex Touch 35t also works with dozens of lanyards, straps, clips, holsters, cases and covers to make carrying the device easy for users while offering protection for the already rugged handheld.

Because of this flexibility, hikers can tether the eTrex Touch 35t to their backpacks or wear it on their belts, while users who choose faster modes of transportation can stabilize the device on their car, bike, ATV or other vehicle.

So, users can use the eTrex Touch 35t for such activities as

    • ATV expeditions
    • Hiking treks
    • Bicycle rides
    • Boating excursions
    • Road trips
    • Everyday commuting

With tide tables, including optional Bluechart tables, as well as sun and moon data and area calculations, there is no limit to where users can take the Garmin eTrex Touch 35t. Fitness enthusiasts can even connect compatible heart rate monitors, bike speed sensors and bike cadence sensors to track their progress on the bike trail or while exercising.

Planning Tools Let Users Prepare Ahead of Time

As part of purchasing the Garmin eTrex Touch 35t, users gain access to a trip planning software called BaseCamp. This software allows users to check out and organize maps, routes, waypoints and more. The complimentary software lets users develop “Garmin Adventures,” interactive journals that share trip details and progress with friends, fellow travelers and family.

Users can see two-dimensional and three-dimensional topographical data on their computers, including elevation profiles and contours. On top of that, users who have a subscription to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery can send in infinite number of satellite images to their device to work with BaseCamp.

Battery Life, Device Weight and Other Specifications

The Garmin eTrex Touch 35t operates on two AA batteries, which are not included with purchase. Garmin recommends using NiMH or lithium batteries and touts up to 16 hours of battery life for the device.

With the batteries installed, the Garmin eTrex Touch 35t weighs in at 5.6 ounces. For comparison, that’s lighter than an iPhone 6 Plus at 6.07 ounces but heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge at 4.65 ounces.

The display resolution for the compact, color screen is 160 x 240 pixels. As such, the resolution is mid range for Garmin handheld products.

Introduction

Garmin eTrex and eTrex Touch have many similarities with the latter is the upgraded version of the former thanks to the additions of bigger display with touchscreen interface.

The eTrex 30x and eTrex Touch 35t are both top of the range devices from those two different series, but they share some similarities including GPS and GLONASS satellites positioning, barometric altimeter, wireless connectivity with other Garmin devices, and 3-axis electronic compass.

A simple download of GPX files to either device is enough to start your geocaches hunting activities; there is no need to enter coordinates manually or write down important information on paper. Every important information including description, difficulty, terrain, and hints are contained in GPX files.

Garmin eTrex 30x

This is the upgraded version of the eTrex 30 with better screen resolution and expanded built-in memory capacity. Although the screen size remains at 2.2-inch transflective TFT, display resolution on the eTrex 30x is better at 240 x 320 pixels. Overall dimensions, weight, battery type, battery life, and water rating remain the same.

3-axis electronic compass

eTrex 30x brings 3-axis electronic compass, allowing you to see where you are going even when you are standing still. Barometric altimeter is also included for easier altitude estimation and pressure changes tracking without using any additional device or sensors.

Support GPS and GLONASS

With both GPS and GLONASS working simultaneously, position locking speed is improved to almost 20 percent faster than using GPS alone.

For outdoor activities which involve difficult terrain and heavily covered area, the additional 24 satellites provided by GLONASS network can set a big difference in tracking accuracy.

Basemap And Map

A worldwide basemap with shaded relief comes preloaded. Its built-in memory has a capacity of 4GB and the microSD slot makes it possible for you to insert a BlueChart g2 preloaded memory card to the device.

The eTrex 30x accepts additional maps such as TOPO 24K maps and even City Navigator NT map for road navigation. Garmin provides an array of mounts, so you can use the device for many different purposes on bicycle, boat, ATV, or car.

BirdsEye Satellite Imagery

If you are subscribed to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, you can download satellite images and integrate them with the existing maps stored on your eTrex 30x. It even allows you to share location information including geocaches, waypoints, routes, and tracks to other compatible devices wirelessly.

Garmin eTrex Touch 35t

Navigational features in the eTrex 30x and eTrex 35t are more or less the same, but the latter brings preloaded TOPO 100K maps and 250,000 geocaches from Gecaching.com.

Built-in memory capacity on the eTrex 35t is also better at 8GB. The screen size is bigger at 2.6-inch, but it produces lower 160 x 240 pixels resolution. One thing that sets a major difference is that eTrex Touch series has touchscreen interface.

Garmin eTrex 35t also lets you use additional maps, insert a map-loaded memory card, and share your waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches wirelessly to other Garmin compatible devices.

Furthermore, you can pair it with a compatible smartphone to activate forwarded notification feature. Notifications received on your smartphones such as text messages, phone calls, and emails will be forwarded to eTrex Touch 35t, so you can keep your phone in your pocket at all times without missing any important call.

Live Track

As additions, this device is compatible with Garmin Connect mobile with which you can let other people to track your activity and locations in real time.

Introduction

The popular eTrex series by Garmin has recently been updated with three touchscreen devices including the eTrex Touch 25, 35, and 35t.

Compared to their predecessors, the recent devices feature new user interface and 2.6-inch capacitive color TFT touchscreen which is also the biggest screen size to hit the eTrex series so far.

The screen produces 160 x 240 pixels resolution. Those three devices have the same physical dimension measuring at 2.3-inch W x 4.0-inch H x 1.3-inch D and weighing 5.6 oz.

There is also an Activity Profile function which stores customized settings for different types of outdoor activities including geocaching, hiking, and cycling. Every profile stores different configurations, so users can switch between profiles easily without fiddling with settings again.

Garmin eTrex Touch 25

Garmin eTrex Touch 25 bringing all the standard features such as rugged design with IPX7 water rating and 16-hour of battery life on a single charge.

It is powered by either 2 AA batteries or rechargeable type such as NiMH or Lithium. Garmin eTrex Touch 25 uses both GPS and GLONASS satellite networks to improve coverage; this feature is also found on the previous eTrex series device. High sensitivity WAAS-enabled receiver is equipped as well.

Garmin eTrex Touch 25 come preloaded with worldwide shaded relief basemaps. The internal memory can store up to 4GB of data yet it accepts a microSD card for more capacity.

The external memory can store custom maps for examples TOPO 24K, HuntView, Bluechart, BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, and even turn-by-turn navigational map for use on the road.

Besides the worldwide shaded relief basemap, as many as 250,000 geocaches from Geocaching.com also comes preloaded so the device is ready to use out of the box. Another good feature is the 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass.

Garmin eTrex Touch 35

Garmin eTrex Touch 35 has all the features you can find in the eTrex Touch 25. More than that, it adds more features for example a barometric altimeter to get accurate information about elevation, altitude, and possible weather conditions.

Garmin eTrex Touch 35 can communicate wirelessly with other compatible Garmin devices such as ANT+ sensors, Chirp Sensor, Tempe temperature sensor, cadence sensors for cycling, and more. It can also function as a remote control for VIRB action camera.

This is a Bluetooth-enabled device so you can pair it with a compatible smartphone to activate the Smartphone Notification feature. All alerts for phone call, text messages, calendar reminder, and other apps sent to your smartphone will be forwarded to eTrex Touch 35.

In addition, it is compatible with Garmin Connect Mobile app which offers LiveTrack. When this function is active, other users can follow your activities in real time.

Garmin eTrex Touch 35t

This is the top-of-the-range device among all three, and it features everything that all the previously mentioned devices have. In most respects, eTrex Touch 35t is not very different from the eTrex 35.

In fact, there are only two major differences particularly in terms of preloaded map and storage capacity. A TOPO U.S. 100K comes preloaded in the eTrex Touch 35t and the internal memory capacity is 8GB or twice the capacity of the Touch 35.
