The ACR ResQLink+ PLB375 Personal Locator Beacon overall dimension measures at 1.6 x 1.9 x 4.5 inches and it weighs only 5.4oz.
Made from engineered polycarbonate blend, it has high-visibility yellow color and is waterproofed as well. It is probably smaller than even any modern smartphone to make it easier for you to store the beacon in your pocket or clip it to your jacket.
It is powered by non-hazmat lithium battery that will last for 6 years after the purchase date. The battery provides enough power to do up to 60 basic self tests before it needs replacement.
Testing The Beacon
To do the test, you will only need to deploy the antenna and depress the test button for one second. Green LED light will flash quickly followed by long green LED and strobe lights, indicating that the device works properly.
If red light flashes after the test, it is an indication that the beacon has failed. After being serviced by an authorized battery replacement center, you need to replace the battery no later than 5 years. Also, the battery has to be replaced after emergency activation.
Optional Satellite Testing
For a device that is intended for emergency cases, frequent testing is required. ACR recommends testing the ResQLink+ once a month to make sure it functions properly.
Besides the basic self-test mentioned above, you can do GPS test or sign-up for optional advanced satellite testing. It requires subscription to 406Link.com, but the good thing is that confirmation messages will be sent to your phone or email. Advanced satellite testing is not required for the personal locator beacon to work.
Location Tracking Feature
The ResQLink+ is equipped with three levels of signal technologies including GPS, 406 MHz signal, and 121.5 MHz homing capability to make sure of quick location tracking and that the distressing signal is sent to worldwide network.
In the event of emergency, this device only has two steps of activation, similar to the self test procedure. You have to deploy the antenna and press the power button (NOT the test button) for one second.
Once turned on, it will search for fixed position and send both 406 MHz signal with GPS coordinates to two global satellites systems which will then relay your location data to rescue centers. The first responders will be notified to immediately help to find you.
The battery will power the device for more than 24 hours after activation, meaning the search and rescue has enough time to find you even before the signal transmission end.
ACR ResQLink+ will still operate when exposed to extreme -20 degrees Celsius. All personal locator beacons must be registered at the time of the purchase to the authorities in your country; the registration is valid for 2 years.
In the case change of ownership, the previous owner must de-register the beacon before the new owner re-registers it.
