Garmin epix Sport Watch Functions
Because the Epix inherits all of its sport watch features from the 920XT, you can expect it to provide a complete list of multisport tracking capabilities including for running, cycling, and swimming.
Features that are specific to running activities are included such as Virtual Pacer, VO2 Max estimation, accelerometer, foot pod compatibility, and so on.
For cycling, there are cadence/speed sensor, power meter configuration with ANT+ compatibility, bike profiles, and more. Garmin Epix can also measure swimming dynamics for example pool distance, stroke recognition, open water mode, pool size, etc.
Garmin epix Navigation Features
Navigational features equipped on Epix are exactly the same with those found on Garmin Fenix 3, and therefore it has stainless steel EXO antenna that supports GPS and GLONASS.
There are three navigational sensors including Altimeter, Barometer, and Compass, or commonly referred to as ABC sensors. As a result, it brings compilation of navigational menu for example Track Navigation, Track Back, Track Recording, Waypoints markings, and even Sight N’ Go to get better visibility of your surroundings regardless of the terrain.
More Garmin epix Features
Garmin epix comes touchscreen and color mapping features. The screen on the Epix is a 1.4-inch transflective color display producing 205 x 148 pixels resolution. It has square watch face measuring at 2.0-inch H x 2.1-inch W x 0.7-inch D; it weighs 3 oz.
The other addition is color mapping. The maps can be purchased as a bundled feature or downloaded from third party provider as well. There are three Epix versions and they are different mainly on the bundled map including U.S. TOPO 100k maps, TOPO Canada maps, and Worldwide version with no bundled map.
The usual Garmin’s sport watch features are still present such as Smart Notification, Bluetooth connectivity, and Garmin Connect compatibility.
The only thing missing from Epix is WiFi function, but it still brings USB port. Epix is powered by rechargeable Lithium-ion battery that lasts for up to 16 weeks in watch mode on a single charge.
It comes with built-in 8GB storage which should be enough to store expedition or activity records. The storage capacity is not expandable due to its 5 ATM waterproofing.
Similar to some high-end devices from Garmin, the Epix supports Connect IQ, which basically means users can download additional app or modify watch face with widgets and different metrics.
It is also possible for anyone to develop apps for the GPS-enabled watch.
