Introduction

Rangefinder is one of the mostly used golf accessories to improve game performance by helping a player to identify the correct distance to the green or hole.

If the usual rangefinder implements laser technology to pinpoint its target, GolfBuddy Voice takes a different approach. This is not a new product category indeed, but the Golf Buddy Voice GPS has some good features wrapped in simplicity to deliver distraction-free golfing.

Design

GolfBuddy Voice is s small square device with rounded corners featuring an inch LCD screen, five buttons, and an USB port. The overall dimension measures at 1.68-inch H x 1.68-inch W x 0.43-inch D, and it weighs 0.99oz (with battery).

The screen is a monochrome LCD. It is powered by Lithium Polymer battery that provides about 9 hours of usability between recharge. Power and Position (P) buttons are placed on the left side, while volume controllers are on the right.

Another button (Main Button) that will trigger the device’s voice is mounted on the front right corner. There is a clip on the back of the unit to which you can attach your belt, cap, collar, or even a wristband.

The box includes GolfBuddy Voice, Power Adapter, USB Cable, Silicon Case, and instruction manual. All other accessories are sold separately.

Setup

The Golf Buddy Voice  GPS has the capacity of storing 40,000 courses which can be downloaded from the company’s official website. The golf courses are accessible from Course Manager software.

Once downloaded, the Voice is ready to go. GolfBuddy has about 37,000 global golf courses in its database, so the Voice actually has the capacity to store more courses than the manufacturer can currently provide.

How to Use

When turned on, the Voice will begin acquiring satellite connectivity and locate the nearest course to its location.

It provides notification when it has found a course and prompts you to proceed to tee box in case you are not there already. Information about distance and hole will only be displayed when you are in the tee box.

The Voice has two main screens including Hole View and Green View. The former is the default screen providing data about distance to the near edge of green, far edge of green, and center of green relative to your position.

You can press and hold the main button to toggle between those three options. It also displays battery power indicator. Green View brings up an image that depicts the shape of green along with signal strength and par score for any particular hole.

In addition, you can flip the screen upside down which can be useful when you attach the Voice to your belt.

To figure out the distance between your position and the green, you need to press the Main Button. Another feature is Shot Distance measurement, which can be activated by pressing P button before you make a shot, followed by the main button. Auto-hole advance feature is also available.
